(Salt Lake City-AP) -- Salt Lake City police want to know why a little girl was locked in a trunk in a store parking lot.

It happened Saturday afternoon.

Police say a witness heard a girl about five-years-old screaming inside a car's trunk and waited until the girl's father returned to the car. The father let the girl out as soon as the witness confronted him and put her in the front seat.

The witness says the child didn't look injured, and that the father said the child wanted to be put in there.

Salt Lake City police are trying to find the family to find out whether or not the child was put in the trunk against her wishes.
