(KSL News) -- Several children reported this afternoon they saw a teenage girl thrown into a van and taken away.

They told police the girl was walking along West Temple at about 1080 South when a blue van pulled up, a man jumped out, yelled at her to get in, slapped her and forced her into the van. Witnesses say the van was driven by an older woman.

Salt Lake Police say it could be a domestic dispute or an abduction, but they don't know.

Det. Kevin Joiner, Salt Lake City Police: "We need to find out who our victim is. We need to find this van. We've got officers going through the neighborhood, talking to people, seeing if the van is familiar to any of them, if the victim is familiar to any of them, so we've got some place to start."

Police are searching for an older full size blue van with the numbers 647 on the plate. The man is described as having dark hair with a goatee, wearing a blue sweatshirt and jeans.
