(KSL News) -- What Salt Lake Police thought might have been a kidnapping this afternoon turned out NOT to be one.

A boy and his girlfriend, both 17, were walking along West Temple when a female friend in a van pulled over to offer them a ride. Several children thought it was an abduction and called police.

Based on descriptions of the van and a partial license plate number, police combed the area and found the van a few blocks away. But after talking to its owner they realized nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.
