Debbie Dujanovic reporting A possible break in a high profile murder case.

It's hoped a new lead will bring authorities closer to solving the mystery of who killed a little girl 9- years ago.

And, joins us live from the Hartland apartments ... where it all began.

It was a case that captured a lot of attention in 1995, when 6 year old Rosie Tapia was kidnapped through her bedroom window in the middle of night.

Neighbors at the Hartland Apartment complex searched frantically, and the community was gripped by fear for several weeks.

The girl was found dead near the Jordan River. She had been sexually assaulted.

Police followed leads all over the country, but have come up empty for nearly a decade.

But now, Eyewitness News has learned detectives are following up on a new tip-- but police are not divulging much information about the case to protect their investigation.

We do know this -- the new evidence points to a man who lived in the victim's neighborhood at the time.

They're not realeasing a lot of information about the suspect. But we can tell you police are compiling DNA evidence gathered at the scene of the murder, with new DNA samples, and will know within several weeks, if there is a match.

Again, it's another lead in a case that has produced dozens of leads over the years. But police are actively pursuing the lead, and we'll keep you updated.
