(Salt Lake City-AP) -- A black bear attacked a camper last night in a remote eastern Utah canyon.

The attack happened about 11 p-m in Desolation Canyon on the Green River.

The victim, part of a rafting party, reportedly suffered only minor injuries.

Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Ruth McCord says the bear scratched the camper's chest and left a puncture wound to the thigh.

State wildlife authorities set out to the canyon to set traps in an effort to capture and kill the bear.

The attack was similar to one that happened last July along the same stretch of the Green River.

In that case, 18-year-old Nick Greeve, 18 of West Linn, Oregon, was grabbed by the head and neck in his sleeping bag. He was treated for puncture wounds and lacerations.

That bear was never captured.
