(KSL News) -- The Utah Democrats held theirs political convention today.

Scott Matheson Jr. Democratic Candidate for Gov.: "My fellow democrats, my name is Scott Matheson, and I'm going to be your next governor."

Scott Matheson Jr. was nominated by acclamation-- he was not opposed by anyone else in his party.

More than 3-thousand state Democrats gathered at the Salt Palace today, to hear speeches from the various nominees...but the keynote, was from the man they want to be the next governor.

Scott Matheson Jr., Democratic Candidate for Gov.:"This is election is about more than a campaign, it's a cause. It's a cause for checks and balances..and openess in government, a cause for new leadership and a cause for common sense and planning with the next generation in mind."

Also nominated today: Paul Van Dam for U.S. Senate, and Steve Thompson for the 1st Congressional District.
