(Salt Lake City-AP) -- The man who pleaded guilty to starting a fire that destroyed a Mormon church and caused more then a (m) million dollars in damage is getting prison time.
A judge sentenced Angel Diaz-Juarez yesterday to five years in prison and ordered him to repay The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 901-thousand dollars in damages.
Diaz-Juarez pleaded guilty in March to arson and possession of a forged green card.
The undocumented worker admitted entering the church last August and kicking in the door of the clerk's office, where he stole blank checks and then used a cigarette lighter to set the fire.
After the fire, Diaz-Juarez says he forged four checks.
The Mexican national is expected to be deported after he serves his sentence.
