(Salt Lake City-AP) -- A prescribed burn is planned today in the Monte Cristo area of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest.
The burn originally had been planned for last fall, but was put off because of weather conditions.
The plan calls for eventually burning about two-thousand 600 acres, but initially only about 300 acres is to be burned. The fire will be started from a helicopter in an area about three miles east of Utah 39.
The Forest Service says the burn is intended to improve aspen and mountain-brush regeneration and improve range and wildlife habitat.
