(St. George-AP) -- Police have released the name of a man shot by an officer yesterday in a traffic stop.

Forty-seven-year-old Chris Zdunich (ZOO'-nich) of Saint George was hit in the abdomen in the shooting. His condition is not available.

Police say Zdunich was pulled over on a traffic stop and exited the vehicle with a gun. Police say an officer fired after Zdunich waved the gun and kept advancing toward the officer.

The shooting was being investigated by Critical Incident Team from the St. George and Hurricane police departments and the Washington County sheriff's and prosecutor's offices.

The officer will be placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard in such cases.
