(KSL News) -- A Utah Highway Patrol trooper is in the hospital with what they're calling a severe case of "road rash."
The motorcycle officer was traveling north on I-15 at about 2300 North in Salt Lake when a truck driver hit his brakes to avoid backing traffic and swerved in the direction of the officer.
Trooper Ketcheside feared they might collide, so while rolling along at about 60 miles at hour he lay his bike down to avoid the truck and skidded about 50 feet.
Despite his heavy motor britches... he suffered severe lacerations to his leg.
