(KSL News) -- Several sticks of old and volatile dynamite have been safely removed from a garage in the Avenues in Salt Lake.
This morning Bomb squad officers went to this Avenues home to carefully remove the 15-to-20 sticks of explosives estimated to be 30 years old.
The dynamite was found by the homeowner.
Bomb experts have been working since yesterday to stabilize the dynamite, soaking it several times in diesel fuel. The fuel breaks down the dynamite.
The dynamite was taken to the landfill to be burned.
More dynamite was found this afternoon at a Sandy home.
Police followed a tip to a home at about 90th South and 250 East where they found two fairly new sticks of dynamite along with some detonation cording.
The homeowner had it stored in a backyard shed.
Bomb squads evacuated neighbors in the area and removed the explosives.
