(KSL News) -- Hundreds gathered at This is the Place Heritage Park this morning for the dedication of a new building.

Members of the Smoot family sang pioneer hymns. They funded the new Brigham Young Academy Smoot Hall, at the park. Their ancestor, Abraham Smoot, who arrived in the valley in 1847, helped build the original school in Provo.

The new building will also be a place of learning with a presentation and family history center.

President Gordon B. Hinckley of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints said the courage of the past helps us live in the present.

Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: "So much of tremendous endurance building to the history of this community that it is so important that it be preserved as a reminder to all who come after."

The new Brigham Young Academy will open tomorrow morning.
