(KSL News) A strange string of events ends in a crash with a Utah Highway Patrol trooper.

A man crashed into a troopers vehicle on Interstate 215 near 3300 South. The trooper was assisting a Midvale police officer who tried to pull the man over for speeding.

After searching the car, officer made a strange discovery.

Jason Norton/ Midvale Police Dept.: "The suspect had claimed to have a pair of shorts, and in the pair of shorts we found a large sum of money. Where that money came from we have no idea. We're in the beginning investigation of this, so we have a lot of unanswered questions."

Ends up the man was wanted in Salt Lake County for taking off after another accident there.

And, police say he escaped from St. Mark's hospital, where he was taken earlier in the day after acting peculiar at the government building.

He is now in jail.
