PAGE, Ariz. -- A houseboat caught fire on Lake Powell Friday, sending six people to local hospitals.
The Glen Canyon National Park Service responded to a 911 call about a houseboat fire near Gunsight Butte around 4 p.m. Rangers arrived to find the vessel engulfed in flames.
Six people on the houseboat suffered burns and other injuries and were transported by boat to area hospitals. Two of those people, a 46-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy, were later transported by helicopters to a burn center in Las Vegas.
Officials said it's likely a gas leak in the engine room caused the explosion that started the fire.
The privately owned houseboat was a complete loss.
