SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Work is under way to transform Salt Lake City's former library into The Leonardo, a hub for science, art and technology.

A 15-month renovation of the building on Library Square began Thursday.

The renovation will include asbestos removal, seismic upgrades and other improvements.

Salt Lake City voters in 2003 approved a $10.2 million bond for the work. Additional funding is coming from the city, the federal government and Rocky Mountain Power's Blue Sky Program.

Officials plan to announce the opening date for The Leonardo later this month.
