OREM, Utah (AP) -- Police were rightfully suspicious of the backpack found leaning against a flagpole outside Orem's 4th District Court.

They cordoned off the area Tuesday and called the bomb squad.

But before the explosives experts handled the bag, a 20-year-old man left the courts building and claimed the bag.

Police Lt. Doug Edwards said officers were curious why the man didn't take the bag with him into the building, so they looked inside.

They found a medieval-style ball-and-chain weapon, drug paraphernalia and drug residue.

The man was booked for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia.
