SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Salt Lake County says Hogle Zoo has met the conditions to receive a $33 million bond to pay for improvements at the animal park.
The zoo needed to raise $11 million before the public money was made available. Voters approved the bond in the general election last November. Plans for the zoo upgrade include a new exhibit featuring polar bears, seals and other Arctic wildlife.
The County Council postponed a vote on the bond last week after questions were raised about how the zoo got the donations needed to get the bond money. Council members voted 7-1 Tuesday in favor of the zoo.
