Every college football games has its own personality and defining characteristics, and wins or losses are always dependent on a varied combination of competitive factors.

Having said that, Bronco Mendenhall has been persuaded that the 24-point plateau is a reliable indicator of success or failure on the gridiron. One of Mendenhall's weekly goals is for the offense to score 24 points or more, and for the defense to allow 24 or fewer.

Since Mendenhall became head coach in 2005, the 24-point number has been rock-solid:

Record when allowing 24 points or fewer--

2005: 5-1

2006: 10-2

2007: 10-0

2008: 7-0

2009: 3-0

Total: 35-3 (92%)

**BYU has won 29 consecutive games when allowing 24 points or fewer.

Record when scoring 24 points or more:

2005: 6-3

2006: 11-0

2007: 8-1

2008: 9-1

2009: 2-1

Total: 36-6 (86%)
