MURRAY, Utah (AP) -- The Humane Society of Utah is offering a $10 rabies vaccination deal for cats next month.
The Humane Society says that studies showed a significant increase nationally in feline rabies cases last year.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the rising number of cases is likely because pet owners don't generally vaccinate cats like they do dogs.
Gene Baierschmidt, executive director of The Humane Society of Utah, says rabies in cats is almost always fatal when it isn't treated, but the virus is 100 percent preventable.
The vaccination special starts Oct. 6.
