Salt Lake City is host this week to the 63rd annual convention of the National Conference of Editorial Writers (NCEW). You should know that KSL editorial writers over the years have belonged to this prestigious organization.
NCEW is one of the oldest and most influential organizations in journalism. Its members are editorial writers and editors from newspapers, broadcast stations and web sites throughout the nation and beyond.
They have come to Salt Lake City, as they do in convention every year, to hone their already substantial skills, to become better informed about important issues of the day, and to enjoy a collegial environment with others tasked with voicing opinion in communities throughout the nation.
They come at a time when the news industry is in transition - some would say upheaval. The nature of journalism and communicating news, information and opinion is changing dramatically. The Internet and other new forms of instant communication have brought new challenges, but also significant opportunities for expressing strong and enlightening opinions.
It is in the midst of this evolving communications environment that NCEW members gather in Salt Lake City. KSL welcomes this esteemed group of journalists to our community. The capital city is honored by their presence.
