SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Fort Duchesne man is going to prison for something he didn't do -- stop his live-in girlfriend from abusing her young grandchildren.
48-year-old Michael Deherrera was sentenced yesterday for looking the other way while Charlissa Sireech allegedly beat her two grandsons. The abuse trial against the 45-year-old woman is still pending.
One child was severely injured, and the other was put into a coma.
The children weren't living with their parents because they had a dispute under court review.
A California court in August turned the children over to the Ute Tribe. Tribal officials placed them with Sireech, even though she had previous convictions for child endangerment.
