SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A man charged with killing three of his family members in a DUI accident was sentenced yesterday.
A judge handed down a two year jail sentence to 60-year-old Tom Willis Coates for the death of his brother, sister and sister-in-law.
The accident happened last July in Salt Lake City.
Coates was driving drunk about 50-miles an hour when his van crossed traffic and hit head-on into a bridge.
The impact killed Irene Jensen and Melvin and Anita Coates.
In addition to his jail sentence, the judge placed Coates on probation for 48 months.
He must also attend five victim impact panels and was ordered not to drive or drink alcohol.
