(KSL News) -- Iraq's first democratic, free election in a half century is underway.

One of the U.S. polling places is in Irvine, California. That's where more than 50 Utah Iraqis are headed.

They started their journey with a prayer at the Alrasool Islamic Center, then they took off on the 14-hundred mile road trip.

Last Friday, they made the same drive together to register to vote. Now, they get to cast their ballots.

You can help with the Iraqis' travel costs, by donating to the Iraq Election Support Fund at any Zion's Bank.
