SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A nursing school cited for illegally collecting tuition may have cheated hundreds more students out of millions more than investigators had previously thought.
The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting today that The Academy of Nursing posted on a Web site in 2003 they had 775 enrolled students, and received more than 150 inquiries a day from around the world.
The state's consumer protection director says officials only knew of 272 students, and they were all right here in Utah.
The state has cited the academy for charging students upfront for its tutoring program and fined it 92-thousand dollars.
Students paid in advance for classes they expected would lead to nursing degrees from New York's Excelsior College.
But when Excelsior increased its entrance requirements, students said they sought refunds -- and the academy stalled.
