SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The G-O-P-dominated House Rules Committee voted eight-to-four yesterday to kill a Democrat's bill prohibiting legislators from accepting gifts from lobbyists or others.

Senate Republicans killed another bill in committee Friday from Republican Senator Gregory Bell, who wanted to lower the reporting threshold on gifts to ten dollars from 50 dollars.

The House bill from Minority Leader Ralph Becker would have banned certain gifts, leaving loopholes for such things as unsolicited flowers, plants, and floral arrangements valued at less than 50 dollars.

Jazz tickets are lawmakers' most coveted gifts.
