Utah running back Darryl Poston has been granted a seventh year of eligibility by the NCAA and will return for the 2007 season. Poston, Utah's leading rusher this past fall, missed parts or all of his first four seasons due to injuries.
Poston played in four games as a true freshman at USC in 2001 and the first three games of 2002, before a back injury resulted in him redshirting. He was not medically cleared to play in 2003 and transferred to Utah in May of 2004. Although he was declared eligible to play immediately, Poston spent virtually the entire 2004 season on the sideline after suffering a season-ending knee injury in the first game. He returned to play in seven games in as a first-time senior 2005 and applied for a medical extension following the season, which he received.
Poston played in all 13 games for the 2006 Utes—starting 11—and rushed for a team-high 553 yards and five touchdowns. After Utah defeated Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl, Poston applied for another medical extension and it was granted through the 2007-08 academic year (2007 football season).
