Sam Penrod ReportingA body was found at the Point of the Mountain Friday afternoon, sparking a police investigation.

As of Friday night, it appears it was not a homicide, but rather the result of a drug overdose. Others who were taking drugs with the victim apparently panicked when they found the person was dead, and then dumped the body.

Body Found on Point of the Mountain

It was just before 1:00 when two people hiking in the area discovered a man's body in the sagebrush not far from the Salt Lake County Hang Gliding Park. Police say it was a white male in his late teens or early twenties.

At the time they said there were no obvious causes of death, but that the circumstances appeared that the body had been dumped. Investigators then considered it a crime scene.

Corp Ron Jackson, Draper Police Dept.: “Suspicious of the nature that there is no vehicle in the area and there is no obvious signs of trauma to the body.”

It is believed that the body had been dumped in the area in the early morning hours of Friday after a party in the West Jordan area where the victim overdosed on drugs.

The person's identity has still not been released. But it seems police have solved the mystery. They will now pursue possible charges against those who dumped the body.
