SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A rally in support of the "912 Project" to recreate American unity drew nearly 2,000 people to the Utah Capitol.

The Saturday rally was tied to similar events nationwide, including a march of tens of thousands in Washington. Supported by TV talkshow host Glen Beck, the 912 movement seeks to recapture a spirit of unity among Americans after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Despite claims the event was nonpartisan, speakers -- including Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah and state Rep. Carl Wimmer, R-Herriman -- were largely critical of President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress.

Many in the rowdy crowd waived signs denouncing health care reform, man-made global warming and labeled Obama a socialist.

Utah Democratic Party spokesman Craig Axford called the event divisive.
