SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Salt Lake County mayor has signed an executive order mandating open Cabinet meetings.
The rare move came as the County Council approved an ordinance calling for the same thing.
Mayor Peter Corroon said he wanted residents to know it's coming from him and not just being proposed by the council.
Both the order and county ordinance calls for at least one executive meeting each month to be noticed to the public and the media. However, Corroon says every Cabinet meetings will be open.
Cabinet meetings are held every Monday at 7:30 in the morning in the mayor's office.
The sessions can be closed when topics include contracts, personnel and litigation.
