HERRIMAN -- An Iraqi war veteran received a special gift Saturday -- keys to a new, specially adapted home in Herriman.
Spc. Bryant Jacobs was with the 65th Engineer Battalion on a routine mission back in December of 2004 in Kirkuk, Iraq. A roadside bomb exploded under the Humvee he was riding in.
It threw him from the vehicle with such force that he went into a coma and woke up two weeks later in Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
He sustained multiple serious injuries and has been living in an apartment that wasn't accessible to his physical challenges.
Saturday, all that changed. "Once you get the keys it's just like, wow. This really happened. This is really my house now. Words can't describe. It's just amazing," said Jacobs.
Homes for Our Troops partnered with Rainey Homes in Kaysville and other professional tradespeople to present the home at no cost to Jacobs.
