Kimberly Houk ReportingA note threatening to kill six students and an administrator is getting serious attention in Cedar City. Police are investigating the threat targeting Canyon View High School.

The police arrested the 16-year old female student after she came forward this morning claiming that she had written the hit list. On that list were the first names of six students and one faculty member. The note was found crumpled up in the gutter of the city’s library.

The school’s superintendent says necessary steps are being taken to keep the school safe.

Jim Johnson, School Superintendent: “We really can’t say for sure, obviously we will follow our safe school procedures and take a look at what the necessary items will be. We have necessary steps in place that will help us deal with the situation and hopefully get it resolved as soon as possible.”

On the note she claimed to want to take the lives of six students and a faculty member. When asked if they believed she would have carried out the threat, Johnson replied, “Well, you know, that’s really hard to say. I think probably the comment I would make there is we take every threat seriously and put our procedures in place so that we look out for the welfare of all our students, whether it’s here at Canyon View or any of our schools.”

Two middle school girls found the note in the gutter, took it to police, and police alerted the schools.

The girl is facing several criminal charges. We’re told that she basically wrote this note just to see what kind of reaction it would get.
