John Daley Reporting"Not when they have guns, it's not very smart. It's not very smart when they don't have guns. I guess they were intent on trying to catch them to see what was going on."

A man in West Valley City is flown by medical helicopter to the hospital after getting shot and then chasing after the gunmen in a car. One man is in critical condition as police search for the group that shot at him and a friend.

Police say they don't know the motive of this shooting, but say a man was shot three times--and determined enough to chase after the people who shot him.

Police say the victim and a friend were leaving an apartment on Redwood Road to get something to eat. Three men walked up to them and started arguing. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot one of the men at least three times. Police say they're not sure if the victim was targeted or if this is a case of mistaken identity.

Capt. Steve Sandquist, West Valley City Police: "As the friends were walking away, they were getting into the car. They heard the suspects say, ;this is him, this is him.’ So when you mention, is it random or not, it appears it may not be. It's either mistaken identity or they were their intended target for whatever reason."

The victim and his friend then jumped into a car and chased the suspects, all the while on the phone with a police dispatcher. Eventually officers got the victim to pull over. The victim was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

Police are still looking for the suspects. They got away in a white, 1996, Chrysler Sebring convertible. The license plate number is 136 MTF.
