SALT LAKE CITY -- The search is on for a man who robbed a gas station clerk at gunpoint.

Police say the robber waited at the back door of the Smith's station at 1174 W. 600 North in Rose Park until the clerk opened it to take out the trash around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

The man pointed a handgun at the clerk's face and demanded cash.

"The suspect waited outside, held the door open while the clerk got the money," said Lt. Melody Gray with the Salt Lake City Police Department. "The clerk did the right thing, not risking his life over some money."

The robber grabbed the money and was last seen running south on 1100 West. A detailed description of the robber was not available.
