SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Next time you use a taxi cab in Salt Lake City you will have to dig deeper into your pocketbook. That's because Salt Lake City taxi cab rates are going up.
Last night, the City Council approved a measure that will allow the city's three existing cab companies to raise their minimum rates. The cab companies affected are Yellow Cab, City Cab and Ute Cab.
The rates, which haven't been raised for eight years, were boosted to help cab companies with high gas and insurance prices.
The initial charge will increase from one-dollar and 60-cents to two-dollars. The per-mile charge will boost from one-dollar and 60-cents to one-dollar and 80-cents. Also, the minimum airport charge will be raised from ten-dollars to 12-dollars.
