SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Senator Orrin Hatch announced a plan today to help decrease soaring gas prices.

Hatch wants to provide financial incentives to increase production at U-S refineries. His bill, The Gas Price Reduction Through Increased Refining Capacity Act of 2005, would provide one part of a long-term solution aimed at reducing America's energy dependency.

Last week, Hatch introduced legislation to increase the profitability of alternative fuels and other clean fuel technologies.

He also says he wants to increase efforts to develop oil shale and tar sand deposits located in eastern Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.
