PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A Pleasant Grove man arrested on suspicion of trying to burn down his mother's home, committed suicide in the Utah County Jail.

Sheriff Jim Tracy says 30-year-old Jeremy John Wilkins was found dead Sunday night in his cell, where he had hanged himself with a blanket.

Pleasant Grove police said they were called to Wilkins' mother's home last Friday after she made a 9-1-1 call. He had allegedly threatened her with a knife and was breaking things in her home.

When police entered the home, Wilkins had a knife but was subdued and arrested. The basement of the home was found engulfed in flames that caused an estimated 150 thousand dollars in damage.

The arrest was Wilkins' fourth this year.
