SALT LAKE CITY -- The Salt Lake District Attorney is proposing defense attorneys pay for materials they request to defend their clients.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports this will include $25 up front for discovery evidence. There would also be a $1 per photograph, $20 per video and an hourly rate charged for the D.A.'s staff to make the copies.

Defense attorney Greg Skordas says many areas charge a fee for these types of materials, but he wishes it was just a flat fee.

"Salt Lake County would save themselves a ton of time and money if they just did it on a flat fee instead of saying if it's more than a hundred pages or less than 200 pages it's a certain amount. That's just going to be very hard to handle logistically," said Skordas.

Some reports say other attorneys have complained about the cost of the fees and they question the fairness of charging someone to see the evidence against them.
