Carole Mikita ReportingAlberta Henry was memorialized as a woman who became a force for good in the state of Utah. Hundreds who she influenced were present at her funeral today. Word and songs of praise were offered for Alberta Henry; they described hers as a life well-lived.
Jeanetta Williams, NAACP President: "Mrs. Henry was a fighter for civil rights and loyalty to the NAACP."
She worked with politicians and lawyers to see that legal rights were protected. In attendance were some of the hundreds of students who benefited from her educational foundation, and friends who will never forget her kindness.
Don Petty, Alberta Henry Friend: "She has risen to such great heights, she's just a legend. I can't say enough about her. To me, she's family."
Rev. France Davis, Calvary Baptist Church: "Whatever needed to be done and wherever people were in need, Alberta was there."
Today they remembered that Alberta Henry didn't win every battle, but to African Americans and other minorities in Utah, she stands as a symbol of strength they promised not to forget.
The directors of the Alberta Henry Education Foundation says it will continue to help students pay for college.
