(KSL News) -- Citizens and soldiers honored military service past and present today for Armed Forces Day.

People enjoyed food and festivities and celebrated freedom in Murray City Park. Citizens also shared moments of silence as they passed through the Healing Field, made of 400 flags honoring soldiers killed in the Iraq war.

Armed Forces Day was first created in 1949 when the army, navy and air force combined under the Department of Defense.
