SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Salt Lake City Police Department wants to buy 130 more Tasers -- this as the mayor is looking into the use of Tasers by police officers.
Yesterday, Chief Rick Dinse asked the City Council for 110-thousand-dollars to give every officer in the field an opportunity to carry Tasers. He said he believes the weapons are effective and save lives.
Anderson wants to address at what point on the "use-of-force continuum" Tasers are employed. Some police departments are using Tasers in place of pepper spray. The city's SWAT team uses them at the same point they would use batons.
The council hasn't decided if it will support the purchase.
