OREM -- An Orem man is cited for criminal mischief after his neighbors used a video camera to record him scratching their car with keys.
Some residents were getting upset because two of their cars were keyed on different nights over the past week. Then a friend came over and parked his truck partially on the sidewalk. That night his truck was keyed from the front to the back.
Orem police say the residents made a report and told officers they suspected a neighbor of the vandalism. They were thinking of setting up a video camera to see if they could catch the vandal on tape.
The surveillance equipment was put in place and the residents watched as their neighbor, 57-year-old Brent Mortensen, walked by and scratched up their car.
Police were called again. With the new video evidence, officers confronted Mortensen who they say admitted to vandalizing a vehicle that night. He was cited with a misdemeanor for criminal mischief.
