MOAB, Utah (AP) -- A 15-year-old California has died of apparent dehydration while biking near Moab.

Authorities said the girl was biking with her mother yesterday on the Porcupine Rim Trail, east of Moab. Emergency crews were sent to the area around 4:00 pm.

The Grand County Sheriff's Office said crews found the girl and her 34-year-old mother, both from Stockton, California, about two miles from State Road 128. The Sheriff's Office said by the time paramedics reached them, the girl was unconscious.

Deputies said she died a short time later. Her mother was flown to a hospital in Moab, where she was treated for dehydration.
