SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Scott Matheson Jr. is resigning as dean of the University of Utah's law school effective next year.

He says he plans to go back to being a full-time law professor, but did not rule out another run for office.

Matheson, the son of Utah's last Democratic governor, lost the gubernatorial race last November to Republican Jon Huntsman, losing 56 percent to 43 percent.
