PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Farmers Insurance Group has rated the Provo-Orem area as the eighth most secure place to live among mid-sized U-S cities.
The rankings are based on crime statistics, extreme weather, risk of natural disasters and job loss numbers for 114 cities with a population between 150 thousand and 500 thousand.
At the top of Farmer's list was Washington's Tri-Cities area of Richland, Kennewick and Pasco. Olympia, Washington, was second and Rochester-Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was third.
The study concluded the most secure metropolitan area of 500 thousand or more was Long Island's Nassau and Suffolk counties, New York And the safest small city of fewer than 150 thousand was Bismark, North Dakota.
