SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- BYU basketball coach Dave Rose gladly accepted an invitation to play in a golf tournament to raise money for cancer research.
Rose is still recovering from a scare earlier this summer when he learned he had pancreatic cancer. Just weeks later, Rose was relieved to hear that surgery to remove his spleen also took out the cancerous tissue.
Rose spent much of the summer resting. When Utah coach Jim Boylen called to see if Rose would be interested in playing in the Huntsman Cancer Foundation tournament, Rose said absolutely. The two rival coaches played the links together at Salt Lake Country Club on Monday.
Rose says after what he's been through, helping fight cancer is now something more personal. Rose was just a patient at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in June.
