SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah and Arizona authorities are searching for new trustees to oversee a trust that controls property and homes of polygamous community.
Trustees of the United Effort Plan, an arm of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, were stripped of their power last month. This after a judge found they had failed to protect the fund's assets.
The request for new trustees was filed in May by the Utah and Arizona Attorney General's Offices. They alleged the then-trustees failed to stop questionable transactions that appeared to be an attempt to liquidate U-E-P property.
A judge will consider appointing replacements on July 21st. Individuals who want to nominate trustees have until Monday.
