(KSL News) -- Flames came dangerously close to a community near Vernal.
Winds shifted the direction of the Dry Fork Fire earlier this morning. Crews and air tankers dropped water on it to fight the flames. So far it's burned 500 acres.
In southern Utah, the Dammeron Valley Fire has blackened over 5-thousand acres about 12 miles north of St. George. Authorities say its no longer burning towards homes, and is headed into Dixie National Forest.
It's now 20 percent contained.
