This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
I remember the days when you could purchase a mixer and have it last for 50 years or when you could buy a quality blender that lasted for 30 years. Those were the days! Today's appliances don't last nearly as long.
When you find yourself with broken appliances and don't want the expense of buying new, Gordon Daniels may be able to help. He owns and operates Authorized Appliance Service Center in Salt Lake City, which contracts with most of the major manufacturers of small electric housewares including Kitchen Aid, Oster, Waring, Braun, Sunbeam, Presto, Brevel and Bosch for repairs and parts sales. The company is also a factory representative for Power Wheels and provides service for major brand clippers and shavers.
Gordon tells me his grandfather, Lauritz Kolby, founded the Salt Lake City-based company in 1933. At the time, small electric appliances were just becoming all the rage, and the major companies were searching for a local service representative. Soon, he had contracts with almost all the major appliance manufacturers, and the company grew so large that he split it into two companies. His son-in-law, Ross Watson, operated the Appliance Service Center on the corner of Sixth South and Second East for 40 years.
Gordon began working in his grandfather's business as a young boy. He eventually took ownership in 1994 and moved the company to its current location at 1475 S. Main Street.
Today, many imported household appliances are not made to be repaired. However, Gordon tells me the better brands are still repairable with a ready supply of parts. With more people looking to prepare healthier meals at home, the Authorized Appliance Service Center remains poised to provide the same cheerful service that the community has come to expect for more than 75 years.
