(Photo courtesy Josh Wahl)UTAH COUNTY -- Hobble Creek and Mapleton canyons in Utah County are closed Monday night because of two fires burning within a close proximity of one another.

The Mapleton and Hobble Creek fires were both reported around 4:30 p.m. Monday. Steep, rocky terrain is hampering the firefighting effort, but several fire engines, helicopters and air tankers are working to douse the flames.

The Hobble Creek fire is the largest, at nearly 200 acres burned. The Mapleton Canyon fire has burned roughly 50 acres.

No word yet on damage caused by the fires; the cause of both is still under investigation.
