This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

I find it so interesting to watch the trends in the job market. At the start of my working career, it was common to stay in a certain profession for almost your entire life. Today, that position has completely switched to where people tend to stay at a job for only a few years and then move on. I recently discovered someone who bucks this trend: Chris Noorda of Noorda Architectural Metals in Salt Lake City.

Chris tells me his father, LaMar Noorda, started the company in 1969. In the early days, LaMar offered a wide variety of metalworking jobs. Over the years the company's focus shifted to roofing and siding, which is still its specialty today. Chris started working for Noorda Architectural Metals as soon as he was old enough to do so and in 1997, he and his brother purchased the business from their father. Since that time, Chris and his brother have parted ways, and Chris is now the sole owner of the company.

Noorda Architectural Metals is a contractor that specializes in architectural sheet metal, wall paneling and metal roofing installations. Chris tells me the company has mastered not only metal roofing, but also membrane, asphalt, slate and tile roofing as well. Its state-of-the-art facility has complete computer-aided drafting and manufacturing abilities. The fully-automated equipment includes presses, shears, water jet, cnc routing, plasma, rollforming, and welding services. Chris says this helps provide customers with the best products possible.

Under his leadership, Chris says Noorda Architectural Metals has grown from a small mom and pop operation to a full-fledged company with locations in Salt Lake City, St. George and Las Vegas. He has worked to build a strong customer base primarily in Utah and Nevada but also extending throughout the western states.

Noorda Architectural Metals is distinguished by service and quality. As a long-time metalworking facility, Chris says the company provides a depth of experience that is tough to compete with.
